FAQ's

I am getting alot of the same questions so I just updated our FAQ's on the studio website and figured I would add it here as well.

 What is SPX?

Simply put, SPX is a combination of weight training and Pilates. SPX utilizes the best of both. It combines the strengthening and toning benefits of weight training and the lengthening and postural enhancing benefits of Pilates in a circuit training sequence. SPX keeps the heart rate up and burns extra calories making it a great cardio workout as well. The routines incorporate old school exercises such as pushups and lunges with brand new moves reserved for the Megaformer. The support of the machine allows you to get an intense workout with low impact on your joints.

I have never done this!!! Do I need a private session first?

It depends on your current fitness level. Most of our new students do just fine in the class. The workout is intense, but the routine is kept simple to make sure everyone is using good form. Each move can be modified to make it either harder or easier for the client making it simple for individuals of all levels to participate in the same class. However, if you have chronic back pain, painful joints or a severe medical condition, it is recommended that you take a private session first to assess your fitness level. Please call first so that an instructor can help you to access if a private session/s is needed.

Do I need to arrive early to class?

If you are new, please arrive at least ten minutes before class to ask any additional questions and fill out the necessary paperwork.

What should I bring to class?

1.Bring a positive attitude. Leave all your worries behind. The class is for you. You need to be present-minded when working out to maximize the physical and mental benefits of the class.
2. You may wish to wear grip workout socks for added traction (they are available at the studio). You can also go barefoot.
3. We have bottled water at the studio, but please bring a bottle for water to avoid wasting plastic cups.
4. Wear loose, comfortable clothes that allow your muscles to stretch and your skin to “breathe”.
5. Jewelry is NOT a good idea. Your necklace may catch into the spring system (a nightmare to undo), and you may forget it or lose it.
6. No cell phones during classes (please be respectful of others).
7. No strong perfumes as some students are allergic.
8. If you are about to renew, please bring your payment. Most of our clientele pay online using our automated system.
9. Classes begin and end on time. Please be prompt.
10. Before or after class please keep the chit chat to a minimum especially if another class is in session. It is important for clients to be able to hear instruction.

How do I sign up for class?

On the main website page you can click on classes/pricing. Once there click on any of the ‘book now’ tabs. That will link you to our online booking site on Mind Body Online. On this site you can see the schedule and pay for classes. There you can create a profile, pay and sign up for classes. It is recommended to register for classes online so that you can be sure to have a spot in class. There are 10 machines in total if you sign up you will have a Megaformer to work out on. (This is also why there is a strict cancellation policy) Check the schedule frequently as classes are subject to change.

How often should I do SPX?

The workout is designed to work your body to muscle fatigue at which point you need to rest. Depending on your fitness level and the intensity of your workout, you will need more or less time to recover. I would recommend 2 to 3 times a week to allow your body to properly recover and repair. Some students love the workout so much that they come 5 or 6 times a week. This is generally not recommended as your muscles need time to repair to get the best results from SPX. Listen to your body.

What if I can't come to class or have to change before the 12 hour period? will I be charged?

Yes, even if it’s your first time. We absolutely require 12-hour notice before making any kind of changes to your schedule. The same rules apply even if you are making a change to your class time. If you are an unlimited monthly client, we will charge an additional $15 each time you cancel or reschedule a class without giving us the full 12-hour notice. There are no exceptions, so please don’t ask. Because of the limited number of spaces in each class, we need to be sure that if you have signed up for a spot, you will show up for the class. Exceptions will be made only if weather is causing dangerous road conditions. Your safety is of utmost importance.

What is the best method to contact someone at the studio?

Instructors are unable to take calls or questions during classes. You can try calling between classes or for a faster response, simpley e-mail us at bostonpilatesplus@gmail.com. We recommend that all of our clients become familiar with our automated booking system. It is the easiest, fastest and most accurate way to book classes. If you forget your password or need more info, call us or e-mail us. 781-861-PLUS(7587)

Can I bring my kids to the workout if they just sit there?
Honestly, we would love to meet your adorable little ones, but due to safety and insurance concerns we cannot allow children to stay in the studio while class is in session. It is not safe to have little hands near the machines or to have other clients distracted while they are in poses that require concentration and balance. Same goes for all of your furry friends.
